Gender Equality, Interpretation, Sasak WomenAbstract
The arrival of Islam brought a breath of fresh air for women, as the faith introduced doctrines rooted in courtesy, equality, liberation, justice, parity, progressiveness, and peace on earth. The advent of Islam ensured that women were no longer marginalized; instead, their dignity and status were elevated. Women ceased to be mere objects and became active subjects—economically, politically, and socio-culturally—sharing equal roles and opportunities with men and thereby enjoying their full rights. In essence, Islam restored the humanity of women, who had previously faced constraints and the suppression of their fundamental human rights. Today, women receive equal regard and appreciation within society. Sasak-Lombok women hold diverse views and perspectives regarding the interpretation of gender equality, a crucial issue in contemporary society. Gender is understood as the equality of rights between men and women and is viewed as an inherent human right; thus, gender equality is essential, given that men and women possess equal potential and capabilities. Discriminatory attitudes and injustices against women must no longer occur, as they undermine women's rights.
