Transformasi Sosial Melalui Dialoq Etis: Menyemai Toleransi dalam Keberagaman Beragama

Abstract

Social transformation through ethical dialogue—aimed at fostering tolerance—is crucial given Indonesia's diversity, which carries the potential for social friction. Since humans cannot live in isolation and inherently require others—a concept captured by the term zoon politikon—ethical dialogue offers a progressive pathway for social transformation. This paper employs a literature review to elucidate the principles, roles, challenges, and strategies associated with establishing ethical dialogue within a context of religious diversity. The fundamental principles of ethical dialogue include: (1) mutual respect; (2) honesty and openness; (3) a non-confrontational approach; (4) the pursuit of mutual understanding; (5) equality in dialogue; and (6) a commitment to social harmony. The roles of ethical dialogue involve: (1) enhancing understanding and appreciation of diversity; (2) fostering social solidarity; (3) establishing a consensus on universal values; (4) shaping inclusive religious leadership; (5) strengthening positive social identities; and (6) generating collaborative social action. Challenges in establishing ethical dialogue amidst religious diversity include: (1) interfaith prejudices and stereotypes; (2) religious fanaticism and exclusivism; (3) a lack of education regarding multiculturalism; (4) socio-political and economic interests; and (5) differing interpretations and understandings of religious teachings. Finally, strategies for creating ethical dialogue include: (1) improving diversity literacy; (2) reinforcing commitment to universal values; (3) building consensus amidst differences; (4) creating inclusive and egalitarian dialogue forums; (5) utilizing technology and media wisely; (6) enhancing cooperation among religious institutions; and (7) focusing on tangible social transformation. Ultimately, these principles, challenges, roles, and strategies serve as vital assets for fostering tolerance within a religiously diverse society.
