Abstract

Proper action—whether political, religious, social, or economic—is viewed by the Qur'an as worship or devotion to God. For this reason, the Qur'an places great emphasis on moral values and psychological factors that form a healthy framework for human behavior. Among these is the emphasis on the management and development of wealth, as stipulated by Islamic law (Sharia). The purpose of this study is to explore in more depth the Qur'anic criticism, particularly in Surah al-Humazah, of those who accumulate wealth, given that in today's reality, the act of accumulating wealth is often considered normal and acceptable. This study employed a library research method, using relevant literature as references aligned with the theme. The findings of this study indicate that the accumulation of wealth is not considered forbidden in Islam if the obligatory zakat has been paid. In fulfilling this obligation, wealth owners are taught to focus not only on personal gain but also on considering the conditions of others—especially fellow human beings who may need assistance. Therefore, Islam encourages a sense of social responsibility and discourages the selfish hoarding of wealth.
