Konsep Tabayyun dalam Al-Qur`an (Kajian Semantik Toshihiko Izutsu)

Abstract

Every word in the Qur'an has a special meaning that needs to be explored, understood, and applied in life. This is a challenge for commentators to interpret verses according to the dynamics of the times with the text of the Qur'an which is fixed. The complexity of the problems of the people gave birth to various interpretation methods, one of which is Toshihiko Izutsu's Semantics of the Qur'an. This study aims to determine the concept of the word tabayyun in the Qur'an using the library research method , namely utilizing library sources to obtain and process data. The analysis was carried out using Izutsu's semantic theory which produces the meaning of weltanschauung or reconstruction of the meaning of the Qur'an. The stages include determining the focus word, searching for basic meaning, relational meaning, and historical meaning until the overall meaning is formed. The results of the study show that the word tabayyun and its derivatives appear 223 times in 121 verses of 41 surahs. According to Ath-Thabari, tabayyun means "to examine carefully"; Al-Maragi, "to seek clarity"; and Quraish Shihab, "researching important news." In terms of weltanschauung , tabayyun means researching major news to avoid hoaxes in the modern era.
