The rapid growth of housing estates in Mataram City brings residents of different religious, ethnic, occupational, and regional backgrounds into a shared living space. This article analyzes patterns of social interaction, factors supporting cohesion, and potential barriers to pluralism in emerging housing estates. It employs a qualitative narrative literature review using official statistics, journal articles, books, and policy documents on social interaction, intergroup contact, social capital, religious tolerance, and urban society. Sources were reduced, thematically categorized, compared, and synthesized conceptually. The review suggests that housing estates can become spaces of integration when relationships move beyond administrative contact toward repeated and equal cooperation. Associative interaction may develop through mutual assistance, neighborhood security, environmental activities, residents’ meetings, bereavement support, and digital communication. Conversely, group exclusivity, prejudice, majority domination, spatial segregation, and stereotype-based communication can inhibit interfaith proximity. Neighborhood administrators, religious leaders, women, youth, and housing managers occupy strategic positions in creating inclusive civic norms. Pluralism in housing estates should therefore be understood as an everyday practice sustained through equality, dialogue, cooperation, and protection of religious rights. This conceptual synthesis provides a foundation for field research and inclusive neighborhood governance in Mataram City.
